A guide for the average, everyday runner, like me.

Hello, and welcome to The Practical Runner, a website designed for and by an every day, average runner. The “running bug” bit me when I was five years old and the only girl running in the 200-meter race in the parking lot of the local church on the corner of my street. I earned a fifth place ribbon, bright green; from that point on, I was in love with running.

But just because I loved running didn’t necessarily mean that I was good at it, or particularly fast.

There were times in my life, when I was younger and lighter, where winning races — even a couple of overall 5K wins — was the focal point of training.

However, as I’ve become older and a bit slower, I have found running to not only be a profound way to help me manage my anxiety and stress, but as a way to keep me motivated and driven, even in the hardest of circumstances.

That’s why I’ve started The Practical Runner, to help other ordinary runners like myself transform our running experiences into the best days of our lives.

You don’t have to be born to run.

Running doesn’t come naturally for most people, and for some of us who don’t have a traditional, athletic body type, it can be fraught with difficulties and crises of self-confidence. It doesn’t have to be that way. Running is for everybody, no matter what you look like, or whether the next stride is your first or your five thousandth.

Getting started in running or continuing to make running an engaging part of your life can be much easier with guidance and support both from The Practical Running community and the running products we review for you.

Your guide to running products is right here, right now.

Not sure where to start with shoes? I’ll help you out with that. Dealing with shin splints or plantar fasciitis? Those are common injuries I’ve suffered and I’ll tell you all about what I used and how I overcame these pesky, painful issues. Looking for the right pair of running shorts? I’ve got you covered at whatever lengths or styles you desire. Are you considering training for a local race, or perhaps a marathon? The Practical Runner will cover everything you need to get through the big day.

In no time at all, you can make running an enjoyable and comfortable aspect of your life.
